About Michael Chambers

My name is Michael Chambers, from London, England. I was a celibate numerary member of Opus Dei from 1995 to 2004, living in men's centres of Opus Dei in Glasgow, London and Oxford.

Sadly, the Catholic bishops of England identified the risks of Opus Dei back in 1980 but stayed silent, leaving me and other Catholics in Britain without information and protection from the known abuses of Opus Dei. I was heavily traumatised by the coercive and manipulative practices Opus Dei, like most members; readers of this website will learn more about these abuses from Opus Dei's own internal documents.

It took me 20 years to forgive the priest of Opus Dei who manipulated me into it. Since 2024, I have been campaigning for reform, transparency and frankly, the total destruction of Opus Dei primarily for the sake of the poor, terrorised souls left behind in Opus Dei - even the abusers are also victims.

I also insist that the painful legacy of Opus Dei be brought into the light and dealt with justly and fully, for the sake of the ex- and current members alike, not to mention hurt relatives and friends.

My Journey

As an ex-member of Opus Dei, I share my firsthand experiences and insights to shed light on its inner workings.
